Living the Gospel: Insights from 1 Corinthians 15

Standing for Christ

Living a life dedicated to Christ is a profound journey that is both rewarding and challenging. As believers, we are called to stand firm in our faith, even when faced with trials and tribulations. The apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 15, reminds us of the importance of perseverance. He encourages us to be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord. This steadfastness is not merely about enduring hardships but actively living out our faith through our actions and words.
If you desire to live life in the fullness of Christ, you must surrender your earthly desires and step into the fullness of God. You must willingly release your need for importance through material things, titles, and recognition.

Receiving and Applying the Gospel

The gospel is the foundation of our faith. It is not just a message to be heard but a truth to be received and applied in every aspect of our lives. Paul emphasises that the gospel he preached is of first importance: that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. This message transforms us from the inside out, reshaping our hearts and minds to align with God’s will. By embracing this truth, we are called to confess Jesus as Lord, acknowledging His lordship over our lives.

The Transformative Power of God’s Word

The Word of God is living and active, capable of transforming us at the core of our being. As we immerse ourselves in Scripture, we experience its power to change us from within. This transformation is not just about moral improvement but a deep spiritual renewal that aligns us with God’s purposes. By applying the message of the Cross to our lives, we learn to live sacrificially, loving others as Christ loved us.

Daily Spiritual Practices

To stand firm in our faith, we must equip ourselves with spiritual armor. Ephesians 6:11-18 describes this armor as essential for withstanding spiritual battles. By putting on the armor of God daily—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word—we are prepared to face whatever challenges come our way. Additionally, receiving the Holy Spirit empowers us to live boldly for Christ, guiding us in truth and strengthening us in our walk with God.

Confession and Salvation

Romans 10:9-10 beautifully encapsulates the essence of salvation: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” This confession is not a mere verbal acknowledgement but a heartfelt declaration of faith. It signifies a deep belief in Jesus’ resurrection and His victory over sin and death. Through this confession, we enter into a relationship with God, experiencing His grace and love personally.

Knowing God’s Love Personally

Understanding God’s love is central to our faith journey. It is one thing to know about God’s love intellectually; it is another to experience it personally. When we truly grasp the depth of His love for us—demonstrated through Christ’s sacrifice we are compelled to live differently. This love motivates us to love others selflessly and stand firm in our convictions.

Standing on God’s Word

Finally, standing on God’s Word means building our lives on its truths. The Bible serves as our guidebook, offering wisdom and direction for every situation we encounter. By holding fast to Scripture, we ensure that it remains a guiding force in our lives. As we pray and meditate on its teachings and allow them to shape our thoughts and actions, we become more like Christ.

In conclusion

Living out the gospel involves a dynamic relationship with God through Christ. It requires us to stand firm in faith, embrace the transformative power of Scripture, engage in daily spiritual practices like prayer and fasting, confess Jesus as Lord, experience God’s love personally, and build our lives on His Word. Then through water-full immersion baptism, we bury our old selves, emerging from the watery grave a new person.
Please note: as Christians, we must support Israel as we are grafted into the vine of God’s children. Through these actions, we grow closer to God and fulfil His purpose for our lives. As Jesus has said, make your life a shining beacon to all so that the world will praise the Father who is in heaven.
