Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit and salvation

There is a sin that cannot be forgiven.

Blasphemy means the action or offence of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; or profane talk.

Blasphemy is to renounce the Holy Spirit’s testimony to Christ’s identity and purpose.

It is to deny that Jesus is who the Holy Spirit has imparted him to be.

It is to behold the person and ministry of Christ as empowered by the Holy Spirit and eliminate it outright which is an abomination to God.

People should never overthink the topic that they have committed this sin as a born-again Christian, because you probably have not. The Father in heaven is not the giver of fear. The Holy Spirit awakens the mind that has been delivered, disentangled, refreshed, salvaged, protected, and brought into an unassailable haven of safety and security so that it is no longer affected by illogical, unfounded, and absurd thoughts.

The lies of Satan are to blame for many who worry about the unforgivable sin. This topic is biblically popular on the Internet today, so I hope the answer you discover reading this article clears up any puzzlement, as God is not the author of confusion.

When Christ spoke about the unpardonable sin, he was teaching that everybody should have a deep reverence for the Holy Spirit:

Matthew 12:31-32

“And so, I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but (blasphemy) against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who profanes a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will (never) be forgiven, either in this age or in the world to come.”

The word “profane,” a synonym, is defined as abusing or treating with contempt or disdain that which is sacred.

Blasphemy is not done by accident; it is committed by the individual who has the knowledge of God and what he stands for. So, Matthew teaches that something so bad will never be forgiven. This means a person’s soul in this life and the next cannot be pardoned. Jesus was casting out Demons by the capacity of the Holy Spirit in Mathew 12, yet the Pharisees charged him of wielding the power of Satan. The teachers of the religious law were observing him do this, drawing crowds away from them, but labelled him with influencing the demonic forces for his own use, then insultingly spoke he was possessed by the Devil himself.

When we think of the beauty and holiness of God, (Words) can be sharper than any two-edged sword. The human soul can be destroyed by the words of man. We can see this today around the planet, and the mess some people’s marriages are in. Words can edify one’s soul or start a major conflict. Jesus stripped himself bare on earth, when he took on human form, except for the power of the Holy Spirit that worked and shone through him. The light of love that was patient, kind, does not envy, nor boast, is not proud, does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs, can only take so much, when the Holy Spirits character is being accused as the anti-Christ.

So, is attributing the power and ministry of the Holy Spirit the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit?

Well in a way it is, as it’s the total rejection of the majesty of the Holy Spirit and the identity of Christ. Either the Pharisees committed the offence or they can very close to it, as they were saying he was possessed by an evil spirit.

Blasphemy was established into the English language in the 13th century, and for the first several hundred years occupied a single meaning, the act of insulting, damaging one’s good name, or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God. It is written nineteen times in the New Testament.

Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, therefore, is not murder, fornication, adultery, witchcraft, etc the sin of the tongue. Whoever commits this sin will not be forgiven in this world or the next, so it can’t be unbelief until death because you can commit it on this side of eternity. It cannot just be general blasphemy either, because Jesus said against the Son of Man it can be forgiven. This is a very deliberate intentional transgression of the law.

The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the ascription of the Holy Spirits work to demonic endeavour.

So how does society know if they have committed the unforgivable sin or not?

1 Corinthians 12:3

“Therefore, I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.”

1 Corinthians 12:3 is interesting as no one who has the Holy Spirit is going to curse Jesus Christ, therefore it is impossible for a true born-again Christian to blaspheme the Holy Spirit because you have the spirit of God already inside you. The Pharisees probably knew that Jesus was the Son of God, but through (pride), spoke things that they probably didn’t mean. Also, the person who commits the unpardonable sin will truly and surely not be interested in being forgiven.

The creator calls people to Christ but there are many who are cut off from his glory. Born-again Christians who have a conscience that is concerned they have actioned this sin, well you have not, as you have the Holy Spirit inside you and are concerned about being forgiven.

If you come to Christ, you can only do so because God is working on your heart, because you haven’t committed it. Only God truly knows who has committed the abomination of this sin.

Jesus said he would never reject anyone who comes to him.
