Some many articles and websites try to justify that drinking alcohol is permitted in the bible. they state that Jesus drank it, and nowhere does it stipulate that we can’t consume alcohol, what god actually detests is the people getting drunk. this argument is completely wrong and unbiblical. people who don’t study the scripture properly like to uphold anything that they think is not written or twist it to suit their own shortcomings. I hope that when you have read this article today you will clearly see that drinking alcohol and getting drunk is a transgression of the law. wine in the bible is a symbol of blood. in the new covenant, Jesus gave them grape juice unfermented at the last supper. the bread was unleavened, the grape juice was unfermented, representing the perfect body and blood of Jesus. new wine is unfermented Jesus does not endorse alcoholic beverages or drugs. in the first miracle, he gives pure grape juice at the wedding in Cana representing his blood, on the cross, he receives from man sour wine:
Genesis 9:21
“He drank of the wine and became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent.”
Noah drank fermented wine becoming drunk, walked around naked in his tent, and caused a family scandal in genesis 9:21.
Genesis 19:33-36
“That night they got their father to drink (wine), and the older daughter went in and slept with him. he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. the next day the older daughter said to the younger, “last night I slept with my father. let’s get him to drink (wine) again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” so, they got their father to drink (wine) that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. again, he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. so, both of lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father.”
So often when people consume alcohol their reasoning abilities are impaired because alcohol is an addictive drug. if we take Genesis 9 and 19, we can see quite clearly bad decisions made whilst under the influence of alcohol. since a born-again Christian is constantly battling the devil in a chess game of spiritual warfare, why should a believer make it easier to fall into sin?
Jesus made fresh grape juice which was only available at the harvest. the best was saved for the last quote in the scripture does not mean alcoholic wine when Jesus turned water into wine. Jesus did not make 6 water pots into booze for a wedding party. at the last supper Jesus says in Mathew 26:28-29:
“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you; I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my father’s kingdom.”
unleavened bread was a symbol of christ’s perfect body, and the unfermented grape juice is a symbol of his pureblood. one out of seven people who drink (one) glass of alcohol become an alcoholic so now do you think Jesus drank fermented wine?
still not convinced let’s go deeper in this topic:
the word “wine” is partly based on the Latin word called “Vinum” which can mean grape juice. Hosea 4 is an interesting bible verse that many do not fully understand. it’s referring to alcoholic wine in excess can take away the heart, but is also stating that (new wine) or grape juice in excess like anything can become a luxury item, leading to exuberance and sin, taking away the heart for the proper biblical worship.
Hosea 4:11
“Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart.”
Jesus Christ said very clearly in luke that the old wine (alcoholic) once consumed people crave more over the new wine (grape juice).
Luke 5:38-39
“but new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. and no one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘the old is good.”
many people take genesis 40 out of context, but if you read it carefully how can squeezed grapes into a cup be alcoholic?
this was clearly grape juice from the vine pressed into the king’s cup for him to drink in celebration:
Genesis 40:9-11
So, the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream. he said to him, “in my dream, I saw a vine in front of me, and on the vine, were three branches. as soon as it budded, it blossomed, and its clusters ripened into grapes. pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into pharaoh’s cup and put the cup in his hand.”
if grape juice was regarded highly, as a luxury item even a king could enjoy, Jesus was also a king. the pureblood mentioned in Deuteronomy 32 is grape juice.
Deuteronomy 32:14
“butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou drank the (pure blood) of the grape.”
Deuteronomy 29 is a warning from the all-knowing that many of the children of Israel did not drink alcoholic wine or strong drink:
Deuteronomy 29:6
“You have not eaten bread, and you have not drunk wine or strong drink, that you may know that I am the lord your god.”
Isaiah 65 teaches that the new wine is grape juice, and the old wine is alcoholic. the wine or the grape juice is found in the cluster is blessed by God as being beneficial for mankind. sometimes they would concentrate the juice by dehydration forming a syrup. the less liquid the easier it is to transport as it’s lighter. this was like we see today a concentrated juice drink. strong drink is referenced in the scriptures does not necessarily mean strong alcoholic beverages, sometimes it’s referring to the wine concentrate that they would add water to. there are so many scriptures that attest we should not consume wine in its alcoholic state.
Isaiah 65:8
thus, says the lord: “as the new wine is found in the cluster, and they say, ‘do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,’ so I will do for my servants’ sake, and not destroy them all.”
there are seventy-five references in the holy scripture that gives the lords opinion on alcoholic wine that are all bad for you, which I will add at the end of this article. the word wine in the scripture is used mainly in a negative connotation which is referring to an alcoholic beverage:
Proverbs 20:1
“Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise.”
if the wine is a mocker which means the alcoholic and strong drink is a brawler do you really think Jesus drank alcoholic wine?
The lord god is very clear about what he likes and dislikes in the scripture:
Proverbs 23:29-35
29 who has anguish? who has sorrow? who is always fighting? who is always complaining? who has unnecessary bruises? who has bloodshot eyes? 30 is the one who spends long hours in the taverns, trying out new drinks. 31 don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. 32 for in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper. 33 you will see hallucinations, and you will say crazy things. 34 you will stagger as a sailor tossed at sea, clinging to a swaying mast. 35 and you will say, “They hit me, but I didn’t feel it. I didn’t even know it when they beat me up. when will I wake up so I can look for another drink?”
let’s break down proverbs 23:29-35 and you can clearly see the message god teaches about satan’s drug. this verse is key to understanding the modern alcoholic mess the world finds itself in today.
verse 29 the people who have severe mental or physical suffering run to the bottle to drown their sorrows and not to god, who either get happy for a moment, sad or angry, then complain, sometimes picking fights with people that generally ends with unnecessary wounds. they consume so much alcohol that their eyes become sore and red.
verse 30 does this scripture remind you of yourself, wasting your precious time in pubs, clubs, and bars getting drunk and trying lots of different alcoholic beverages?
verse 31 do you gaze into your drink drowning your sorrows, blaming your family for events?
those who linger long at the wine never ends with just one drink, as eventually, it runs too smoothly down to notice.
verse 32 let’s mix our drinks like we see today so as not to taste the bitterness. maybe dilute with tonic, so we can get drunk quicker, then the alcohol kicks in and bites like a poisonous snake, and stings like a viper as a hangover.
verse 33 you will see hallucinations, maybe it’s a girl you would never find attractive sober?
and your heart will desire her saying perverse things?
you will attest that’s not me it’s the alcohol speaking, but you chose to drink it opening a doorway for satan to exploit your body. people will always try to justify drinking which is a drug, and a poison that harms the body.
verse 34 is referring to not remembering past events staggering around in a drunken stupor, waking up in a bathroom, or wrecked on a park bench the next day.
verse 35 when you are intoxicated it takes away your perception of the pain, that’s why they administered alcoholic drinks in the past to dull the senses in painful medical procedures, like on nelsons flagship.
alcohol is a legal drug that people have access to wanting to seek it again and again. remember alcohol is bitter like a serpent and stings like an adder, can you see proverbs 23 as yourself?
Is proverbs 23 a mirror image of your college campus or a party?
I have always asked the question, why can’t people have fun without alcohol always being present at a social event?
only a “drunkard” would do such a stupid thing, so question yourself why would you associate yourself with anything that could tempt you into getting drunk?
the main goal for any person consuming alcohol today is to have sex, to take advantage of something or someone. alcohol is the most commonly used date rape drug used by man today because it’s legal. there is nothing that says you can’t get drunk all the time, especially if you are a woman you need to properly guard yourself against any form of sexual assault. how many people think they can adopt the mantle of satan under the influence of alcohol?
have you ever had an agenda with a woman you find attractive, and mentally decide to take her somewhere to get her drunk?
is your conscience then so corrupted that you want to exploit her body for sexual intercourse?
there is a lot of planning that goes into sexually assaulting a woman, using alcohol as a tool. why do people not walk around certain areas at night?
yet when it comes to alcohol you become less aware of the danger around you while under the influence. nothing about alcohol speaks well in the bible which should be a warning to all, as drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of heaven:
1 Corinthians 6:10
“Nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
generally, people don’t drink alcohol because of the taste, they drink to get drunk, and all born-again Christians should avoid it at all cost as it’s a sin. if you have bottles and cans of booze in your household, ask yourself have your children taken a sneaky sip of it?
Do some people justify alcohol for cooking purposes?
born again Christians are different from other people, they are guided by the holy spirit, and the testimony should show others that you are set apart from them. we don’t attend parties or wine bars, not because we can’t have fun or are deemed as boring, no, we are not conformed to this world and understand where the sin leads. if you are willing to sacrifice your potential service with the lord consuming alcohol, for a little bit of passing pleasure when you are a drunkard, think again, because you will have to give an account of yourself at the judgment day. alcohol is a drug and the brain rewire itself, so don’t ever use the bible like many top Christian websites do to justify its use or attack christ’s standards with your own shortcomings that the son of god consumed alcohol. Jesus did not consume alcohol:
Mathew 26:29
“I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my father’s kingdom.”
Mark 14:25
“truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”
luke 22:18
“for I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
Three new testament bible verses are referring to the alcoholic wine that Jesus said “no” he would only drink the new wine or grape juice which was healthy for the body, in his father’s kingdom, not the old wine.
Mark 15:23
“and they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.”
Mark 15:23 is interesting they tried to give Jesus a motley drink of alcohol and myrrh before he was crucified on the cross. myrrh was a narcotic mixed with alcohol was designed to help relieve the pain he was suffering. but he chose the will of his father to endure with the full consciousness the sufferings appointed to him. the second wine that christ was given was when he hung battered on the cross, which was sour, quenching the thirst more effectively, but prolonged the agony which he accepted for the full purpose and nothing else. at calvary, he drank sour wine as a symbol of his father’s wrath so that we might enjoy the wine of his father’s love, join him at the marriage supper of the lamb, and live redeemed forever in the glorious presence of the one who took no shortcomings in saving us from sin.
Jesus was also a “jew” and followed the (law). if he didn’t observe the mandate that he created he would have been stoned for sin. The mosaic law in Leviticus 10 (forbids) the consumption of alcohol the bible teaches:
Leviticus 10:9
“do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when you go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest you die: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.”
so, with this in mind, the (priests) were forbidden to drink alcohol in entering the tent of meeting. Jesus was a Jew, and is the high priest, charging the born-again Christians to be holy priests and ambassadors here on earth. so as holy priests filled with the holy spirit, we also should be an example to others and not drink alcohol. the bible teaches “abstain” from all appearances of evil, so have you associated anything good from alcohol and drunkenness from this article so far?
Habakkuk 2:15
“woe to him who gives drink to his neighbour, pressing him to your bottle, even to make him drunk, that you may look on his nakedness! you are filled with shame instead of glory.”
this Bible verse happens a lot at the college campus and parties, getting people drunk to get lucky. alcohol is a tool for many to action the worst kinds of evil. so, with this in mind do you really conceive that the son of God made the water into alcoholic wine for his first miracle?
the answer is no as it would have destroyed the balance between the holy spirit, and broken the mosaic law which could have caused him to be stoned on the spot:
Romans 2:15
“in that, they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them.”
we have been bestowed with a conscience that can be seared by alcohol, terminating the work of the spirit of god talking to us. the first time you ever do something bad, your conscience never feels good about it because the spirit of God is prompting you, warning you. it’s bad but you ignore the alarm anyway, and eventually, your mind adapts and you get accustomed to it. so, your conscience is against the sin from the beginning as it was at the start of the creation:
1 Peter 2:9
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, god’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
as priests we can’t drink alcohol, this little sacrifice to the lord is not going to do yourself any harm, but grant you rewards in heaven. if Jesus consumed alcohol, he could not have been the author and finisher of our faith or our high priest. if there was a contradiction in the bible it means our faith is not perfect, yet god can’t lie. statistics prove that alcohol can cause cancer as it’s a carcinogen, which is a substance capable of causing cancer in the living tissue. why do the doctors not recommend you drink alcohol when you are sick?
the cardiovascular benefits are pretty much non-existent because it requires you to not go over the recommended limits which are two glasses for men and one for a woman. if you go home from work after a long stressful day and consume a whole bottle of wine, how many glasses is that?
alcohol leads to vitamin deficiency, lots of protein and damages the liver and the pancreas. ethanol in alcoholic drinks may cause eye irritation (red eyes) respiratory problems, cancer, and is category one in danger. chemists have to study and work in lab conditions with these precautions in mind, so what does this say about some of the spirits that are forty per cent proof?
The advert on the tv (the wine from the “devils cellar) I think is apt for describing alcohol. Ephesians 5 is fitting in scripture because if we are filled with the holy spirit it’s impossible to put any alcohol into your body, as the holy spirit and alcohol do not mix. true born-again Christians in Romania do not drink alcohol. any (deacons) reading this article please read 1 timothy 3:8 deacons are to be worthy of respect and not drinkers, and 1 timothy 3:11 deacons’ wives are to be temperate and sober.
Ephesians 5:18
“do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. instead, be filled with the spirit.”

six stone jars into wine meaning?
six stone jars
John 2:6
“six stone water-jars were standing there, ready for use in the Jewish purification rites. each held about twenty or thirty gallons.”
the water jars were used for ritual purification, holding around 25 gallons each. six is the biblical number of man, and of imperfection. seven is the (perfect) number, the number of god. stone vessels, unlike ceramic, clay and glass vessels, were not subject to impurity. an impure pottery vessel, for example, had to be broken. mankind was fashioned from the clay of the ground by the potter, we are also shattered through sin and impurity. once we are blessed by the rock (Christ) and the water (word) comes through us we are transformed into the new wine. The wine was always a picture of joy, in the biblical festive sense (not) for drunkenness. this was Jesus first miracle of turning water into wine. there are seven titles of christ, seven signed miracles, and seven I am statements. the woman at the well had seven exchanges that are recorded in the scripture. we only get one shot at a Christian marriage today. marriage portrays christ, it’s a lifelong picture living out christ. marriage was a big deal in biblical times that they produced a two-week-long feast to celebrate the event. so, were they poor as the wine had run out at the wedding?
is Jesus teaching that life’s joys always run out?
one stone jar
according to the law, if you touched a leper, you risked becoming unclean.
two stone jars
according to the law, if you came in contact with a menstruating woman, you were made unclean.
three stone jars
according to the law if you touched a dead body, you would become unclean for seven days.
four stone jars
according to Jewish tradition, if you ate with tax collectors and sinners, you would be defiled.
five stone jars
according to the law if a prostitute touched you, you would risk being considered impure.
six stone jars
Jesus crucifixion takes away the impurity of man through sin and conquers death through his resurrection.
why did Jesus never call mary mother, it was always woman?
mary of cause was blessed but did not have any divine pulling on Jesus. anything to do with the ceremonies of the law, the old testament is very specific about the water you would use. it had to be stone not clay. clay pots are permeable able to observe contagion or disease. stone pots were impervious to contamination spoiling the water. all of the priestly items were handcrafted of stone. Israel today is an archaeological masterpiece of smashed stone reminders everywhere of pottery if we look down at what we are walking on at the major biblical sites. six waterpots of stone would have been very special and looked after items of the household holding 20-30 gallons so why were the stone pots empty?
Jesus uses the empty pots to demonstrate that they were not doing what they were meant to do, and were worthless. Jesus fills each pot right up to the brim within my opinion unfermented wine which is interesting. there are replica pots in Israel that portray how big these jars were. opinions may vary to justify one drinking whether it was fermented or unfermented. credible sources attest to the fact that Jesus abstained from any fermented wine, as even one glass can affect the holy spirit-driven mind. we must also note that alcohol was not as strong in biblical times as it is now, and all throughout the bible drunkards will not inherit the kingdom of God. Jesus tells us through signs that the earth joys run out. money, fame, wealth does not bring complete joy and happiness. Jesus said:
“take those empty stone pots, bring fullness to them, so you may have life more abundantly.” or life to the brim.
at weddings, the family did not do anything servants and hired people would have prepared the event. picture the scene of those workers shocked, angry and frightened that the wine had completely run dry. the wedding reception in biblical times lasted seven days. seven is god’s number. the greatest insult to the community was if you ran out of food or drink, as the community was all invited. Jesus when told by mary that there was no wine said:
“woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “my hour has not yet come.”
Christ came from the highest point to the lowest part of the earth. what’s interesting to note, the lowest part of earth recorded in the Guinness book of records is the dead sea area. Jesus had been baptised by John, was tempted in the wilderness for forty days and forty nights by the devil, and was energised by the power of the holy spirit. mary said to the servants “whatever he asks you to do it.”
before the bride would ever go into the wedding procedures, she would have to go through a ritual cleansing process of oil, and submersion in a mikvah bath. according to traditional Jewish practice, the bride visits the mikveh within four days of getting married, seven days after the end of her menstrual cycle. this timing is due to the mandate of niddah, in which couples refrain from sexual relations during and immediately after the wife’s menstrual period and can resume relations only after the wife purifies herself totally in the mikveh pool. Jesus is taking part in the Jewish ceremonial customs, and he displays the emptiness of the law to the letter, not combined with the fullness of the mandate with the spirit. Jesus understood they were almost robotic in fulfilling the letter of the law but were not filled with the spirit of the covenant. the pots that were empty were transformed into something useful. the purpose of the letter of the law is to bring the person or household to christ, and the spirit then elevates the law to a higher standard of holy living. so, there were six twenty- or thirty-gallon stone pots that stood up. Jesus asked them to (draw) water out of the well and fill the six waterpots. then he says go (draw) again?
men came and dropped the bucket into the well, draw up and poured out the water into the pots, which turned into wine. then the master tasted the water that was made wine. this all took time to draw and produce the wine from the grape. every one of the signed miracles of christ shows abundance from him, not from the world. you have saved the good wine till now; god saves the best grape juice till last. though the outward man perishes the inward man is new wine day by day. the psalm that is most associated with all the rules, regulations and purification is the sabbath psalm 92:
Psalm 92
a psalm. a song. for the sabbath day.
“It is good to praise the lord and make music to your name, o most high, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. for you make me glad by your deeds, lord; I sing for joy at what your hands have done. how great are your works, lord, how profound your thoughts! senseless people do not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever. but you, lord, are forever exalted. for surely your enemies, lord, surely your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered. you have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured on me. my eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries; my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes. the righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the lord, they will flourish in the courts of our god. they will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “the lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
in the hebrew bible, there are 16 verses to this psalm. this was the psalm that was read when ezra instituted the synagogues that are still followed twenty-five hundred years to this day, that they read on day six, or day five night till day six night. the only day that God had a name to was the sabbath to be kept holy throughout the generations. there were all the Levitical rules of purification for not touching dead bodies, discharge, hand washing etc yet Jesus in verse 12 states: “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree.”
palm trees grow in harsh deserts and always mark the oasis, and he shall grow like a cedar tree in Lebanon. Lebanon cedar trees grew on the other side, where the huge storms blasted in. as a tree planted in the house of the lord we shall flourish. they will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “the lord is upright; he is my rock, and there is no wickedness in him. when we are god’s people in old age, we are still bearing fruit, even though our outward body may be failing. the older we get, we are becoming full, drawn upwards to the wine of christ more overflowing with the spirit of life. the inward man is renewed more and more and we treasure more the earthen vessels. we declare the lord is upright (upright earthen vessel), he is my rock (stone jar free from disease and sin), and there is no unrighteousness in him. christ offers abundant life that always exceeds the world. On the third day, there was a wedding, we are on the third day since christ’s birth. the first miracle points to the wedding of the lamb and his bride as part of him. there were six pots, six is the number of man, to be filled with the water of the word, that then changes the water into wine or new wine by the majesty of the holy spirit. (drawn) upwards, and (full) of joy the best wine is always last after we are cleansed in the purity of his spirit. when we talk about the days of the week, we have named them after pagan god’s. this is not in the will of God. there is a story of the sanctity of marriage, Jesus separates from mary’s son to do god’s work, the old covenant is elevated to the next level not done away with, and the first miracle is performed in front of friends and family symbolising unity.
the day of the wedding was the third day which would have been our Tuesday as we know it. why did they have the wedding on the third day of the week?
on the third day of creation, God said his work was good twice, this is why many get wed today on the third day of the week as it was doubly blessed. the father blesses the bride, the groom and the two become one. this was in Cana of Galilee which is about 6-7 miles away from Nazareth. Jesus was about thirty years of age when he began his public ministry. many people believe that the person getting married was related to Jesus personally:
John 2:1-2
Jesus changes water into wine
“on the third day, a wedding took place at Cana in galilee. Jesus (mother) was there, and (Jesus) and his (disciples) had also been invited to the wedding.”
